Assisted Natural
Regeneration (ANR)
NRE has extensive experience covering over 500,000 ha working in a wide variety of vegetation communities including grasslands, heathlands, woodlands and all different rainforest alliances. We are experienced in and use a wide variety of vegetation management techniques including physical, chemical, machine and fire.
NRE specialises in:
- The conversion of Camphor Laurel and Lantana to subtropical rainforest. Industry leading methodologies have been developed and refined over 25 years to convert these exotic vegetation communities efficiently and effectively into luxuriant subtropical rainforest and associated forest alliances. NREs methodologies allows us to regenerate highly diverse forests of structural integrity with high biodiversity and habitat values.
- Weed eradication projects including over 15 years contribution to the Lord Howe Island Weed Eradication Project and the eradication of Coral trees from Upper Wilsons Creek and Coopers Creek Huonbrook.
- Landslips and flood damage caused by the 2022 Floods.
- Target weeding including but not limited to Cats Claw Creeper at Mt Pickapene National Park; Climbing Asparagus in Iluka World Heritage Nature Reserve; and flood dispersed weeds in Wilsons and Coopers Creeks.
- Controlled burns to control weeds and create appropriate conditions and encourage the regeneration of vegetation communities that require fire.
- The use of small and large machinery to more efficiently treat heavy weed infestations.
- The protection and enhancement of threatened, endangered and critically endangered species

Planting AND
REVEGETATION
NRE has been planting to reconstruct a variety of plant communities for over 25 years. We have planted and grown over 500,000 plants across hundreds of small to large sites. Our decades of experience have resulted in planting across the seasons and through El Nino -La Nina cycles. As such, NRE has developed an extensive knowledge of drought, frost and flood tolerant species, soil quality and impacts of weather patterns. Combining all these factors while considering the ecological function of different species, allows us to determine the most suitable species mix for each project.
NRE has extensive experience revegetating:
- Subtropical, temperate, littoral and dry rainforests
- Riparian zones
- Landslips
- Enhancement planting to improve ecological function of young regenerating rainforests
- Koala and Glossy Black Cockatoo habitat
- Coastal, Clay and montane heath
- Endemic grasslands

Consulting and
Education
NRE has been involved with assisting governments, landholders and community groups in the planning of ecological restoration projects for over 20 years. These projects vary in size from small to large and from individual properties to projects covering up to 20 properties. Plans are designed to increase the sites ecological function and biodiversity, reduce future maintenance, improve aesthetics, maximise efficiency of the work and contribute to wildlife corridors on a landscape level.
NRE specialise in:
- Property plans including;
- Vegetation management plans
- Restoration work plans
- Property maintenance plans
- Weed control and eradication plans
- Vegetation surveys
- Fauna surveys
- Habitat reconstruction plans
Being passionate and at the forefront of ecological restoration in the Northern Rivers, NRE is dedicated to sharing knowledge with the goals of building the capacity and will of the community and improving the results across the landscape of all ecological restoration projects.
NRE has presented and assisted with numerous community field days linked to Landcare, school, community, Not-for-profit and corporate groups. These events have covered:
- Rainforest restoration and ecology
- Floods, Landslips and riparian restoration
- Camphor and Lantana conversion
- Weed eradication and target weeding
- Education and plantings days with schools and pre-schools
- Community planting days
- Native plant and weed identification workshops
- Education days with schools
